‘Labour isn’t Listening’: GB News Row Ignites After 1,000 Migrants Arrive in Small Boats

Britain’s migrant crisis inflamed a heated exchange on GB News, with Senior Political Commentator Nigel Nelson insisting it would be “too difficult” to detain illegal migrants. Responding on the People’s Channel, broadcaster Lizzie Cundy pushed back, slamming the Government as being “full of empty promises”.

Ministers are preparing to shift asylum seekers out of hotels and into military barracks, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expected to outline the plan within weeks.

The move comes after a surge of small boat crossings on Ms Mahmood’s first day in office, with over 1,000 illegal migrants arriving in Britain.

Nigel Nelson and Lizzie Cundy went head-to-head over Britain’s migrant crisis. Addressing the concerns of people across the country, Ms Cundy told GB News, “I totally disagree with you, Nigel. I live in an area where there is a migrant hotel; it’s next to a school and I’m seeing what’s happening. It’s very similar to what’s happening in Epping.

“And the parents, the grandparents, and the community are worried and scared. We’ve seen what’s happened in Epping; it’s unbelievable, and I know one of the mothers there and they are truly worried and scared.”

Criticising Labour, she went on to say, “I don’t feel this Government is listening.” The new Home Secretary got another thousand over; we need to do something. This is not a problem; it’s a crisis.

“We don’t know where they’re from, we don’t know their backgrounds, and we don’t know if they have a criminal record.”

On Shabana Mahmood’s first day as Home Secretary, migrants landed in Dover. Sharing his view on migrant hotels, Nigel backed Labour’s new plan to accommodate illegal migrants in former army barracks.

He stated, “There’s nothing wrong with having different places for them. John Healey’s idea this morning, the Defence Secretary, to put them in army barracks, fine.

“If we can find if we can find places like that, no problem.”

Weighing in, Ms Cundy argued, “How is this Government so full of empty promises? They said they’ll smash the gangs, what gangs has he smashed?”

Nigel hit back: “On smashing the gangs, it’s not going to happen overnight; we’re not going to stop the boat crisis overnight. But what they have done is they’ve reduced the numbers of people coming across.

Ms Cundy told GB News during the debate, “Keir Starmer cannot smash the gangs.”

“In other words, although the figures are high, it would have been even more. The National Crime Agency has run operations in Bulgaria, which have seized 45 inflatables; they’re eight feet long, and they could carry 60 people each. The fact that they’ve got those means that more than 2,000 people weren’t able to cross.”

Cundy fired back: “He’s not smashing the gangs—he can’t even smash the top of his boiled egg. He’s not going to stop it, Nigel.”

“In Weybridge, which is a beautiful place, they’re putting them in HMOs and they are filming the schools. Rupert Lowe has actually written a letter to the Home Secretary about it; it’s a big worry and we need to act and act now.”

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood commented, “These small boat crossings are utterly unacceptable and the vile people smugglers behind them are wreaking havoc on our borders.

“Thanks to our deal with France, people crossing in small boats can now be detained and removed to France and I expect the first returns to take place imminently.

“Protecting the UK border is my priority as Home Secretary and I will explore all options to restore order to our immigration system.”
