Elvis Presley was a legend within in his time and still continues to break through generations today with his mellow crooning.

Person Holding Two Hamburgers

We will preface this article by saying – Elvis Presley’s diet was incredible unhealthy and the late performer was in terrible health due to this [and his penchant for prescription medication!]. That being said, don’t eat like Elvis every day if you want to live a long life.

Pound Cake

Elvis had an insane sweet tooth so it’s no surprise that pound cake was one of his favourites. Pound cake is a heavy and dense sweet loaf, similar in style to banana bread or lemon cake. Elvis was said to enjoy sour cream or whipping cream [Cool Whip in America] on top.

Peanut Butter Banana Bacon Sandwich

I mean, the name alone is a mouthful but the dish itself is decadence reimagined. Some say Elvis actually invented this sandwich which, true to its name, contained peanut butter, sliced banana, crispy back bacon and toasted bread. Sometimes Elvis would add a dash of golden honey to the stack. Some also say – this is the sandwich that led him to the grave!

Southern Biscuits

Elvis Presley was a Southern boy and loved his Southern Biscuits. Similar [but not quite the same] to a British scone, these heavy biscuits are made with buttermilk, making them decadent and rich and are perfect for mopping up barbeque sauce – another Southern staple!

Fried Dill Pickles

Pickles have become pretty popular over the last few years, but Elvis was a pioneer in many ways and was enjoying pickles in all varieties in the 1950’s!

If you’ve never had fried pickles, you can take any pickle, bread and fry it and bingo bongo – fried pickles! Elvis preferred a beer batter with a dash of cayenne pepper and hot sauce – turning it into a hot and spicy fried delight!

Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy

Another classic Southern dish – Chicken fried-steak is a cheap piece of beef that’s been pounded to within an inch of its life. It’s then drowned in eggs, flour and seasoning and deep fried until golden brown – just like fried chicken. Hence the name, Chicken fried-steak.

The gravy that Elvis liked with this dish, however, is not even close to what we Brits consider gravy. It’s actually a ‘Country Gravy’ or a white gravy. Made with lots of butter and flour and usually a bunch of ground up sausage meat – it’s an incredibly savoury sauce.

Final Thoughts
