When people think of the military, they often are reminded of the Navy or the Air Force. These are two incredibly common branches that have gained popularity through various movies, news articles and other public outlets. However, the military has far more than only two branches. There are several other branches that play significant roles in upholding and maintaining national security. Coast Guard

The Coast Guard is unlike any other military branch. Its focus is on the water rather than land or air. The Coast Guard offers maritime security, environmental protection and search and rescue. They play a vital role in the nation’s security.

The Coast Guard operates primarily in maritime environments. They act as first responders to emergency situations at sea by carrying out search and rescue missions and enforcing the law on the water. The Coast Guard rescues stranded boats, helps boaters and responds to national disasters.

Another duty of the Coast Guard is to ensure that ships and boats comply with laws. They prevent illegal drug transportation, smuggling and human trafficking. They play a larger role in national defense than most people think. The Coast Guard offers port security, protection for the oceans, rivers and waterways, and monitoring and responding to oil spills, marine pollution and hazardous material spills.

As so much of the world is covered in water, the coast guard’s role is extremely important. Whether it’s preventing an attack on ports or waters or protecting the environment, the Coast Guard is one branch of the military that just doesn’t get talked about enough!
